Did you know that The Word of God, The oracles that were given to the Jews to protect throughout their generations, The Bible, was quietly spoken of in the books and letters that were to make up the text before it even existed?
In Luke Ch. 1 it begins quite clearly speaking of a group of writings that bear witness of The Savior. <Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ambassadors of The Word have delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for sometime past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theoplolis, that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.> Now, I know that Theopolis was most likely the name of a man to whom this letter was written personally. I beg the question, was the author of this letter aware that the name “Theoplois” means “lover of Elohim?” If I had to guess I would say “Yes.”
Instead of wrestling with that information, let me ask you to file that away for further investigation at a later date. Currently we are focusing on the fact that all these books, letters, songs, rulings and regulations, historical references, and life advice all boil down to one thing: A testimony of The Savior. The Bible is a witness of the character of Yahova and His Most Precious Son.
When The Savior was alive in the form of a man, who lives and dies once, He could not point to a higher authority, understood by most earthlings, while saying, “I Am Who I Am because this person or group of people recognize Me as such.” John, Isaiah, Jeremiah they all had the same problem. They could not go before their king at the time and say “Hey, you guys need to check yourselves. You see, this higher authority has recognized me as the ambassador to bring you the news that your imperfections are causing major problems. You need to go through the difficult work of learning the lessons that will right some of your wrongs both for yourself and for those under your authority. Not to mention the rest of humanity”
In the eyes of the kings and ruling authorities of the Israelites, they were the highest authority because YHVH had made them the higher authority. There is one example of a righteous king who was given his authority through The Savior and took His correction well. This example that comes to mind is when king David was rebuked by way of parable, and rather brusquely, through the prophet Nathaniel. David repented, was forgiven, and took his punishment like a man. David did not even have to be told that Nathan was coming in the authority of The Invisible Higher Power. David’s faith was incredible.
The same cannot be said for some of the authorities of the Jews in Israel during The Savior’s days. The Savior told them that those who came before Him bore witness of Him. He was challenged: “Your witness isn’t any good because You are bearing witness of Yourself.” No no no, ruling authorities, you have it somewhat wrong. In the book of John, after healing a man on the Sabbath, His authority was questioned and He pointed to where His authority comes from. He also pointed to Who He truly is. He began by agreeing with His accusers where they were right and then He showed them where they were wrong. <If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true.> You see there, He was showing them where they were right. Now, He began to show them what it was they had been failing to see. <There is Another that bears witness of Me; and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true.> One Witness Who He can always rely on, check.
<Ye sent unto John and he bare witness unto The Truth. But I receive not testimony from man: But these things, I say that you might be saved.> There is another witness, who received His witness from the previous witness, yet was a man just like themselves. Next, He begins to explain the listener’s relationship to the ladder of the two witnesses being called to remembrance:<He was a burning and shining light: and you were willing for a season to rejoice in His light.>
Then, The Savior refers to another witness more powerful than John, and for good reason if His listeners were of the sect of pharisees, saducees and herodians:<But I have a greater witness than that of John: for the works which The Father hath given Me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of Me, that The Father hath sent Me. And The Father Himself, which hath sent Me, hath born witness of Me.> Later in this discourse, The Son refers to yet another witness. The witness of The Scriptures that were written about Him, and given to the very Jews He was speaking with, given to those very Jews to protect from generation to generation.<Search the scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life: and they are they which testify of Me.>
The remainder of this discourse you will not find me picking it apart and explaining what The Savior shows me. I invite you to close your eyes, put on a thankful heart and ask Him to testify of Himself to you within your own self, that you may be saved from the deceitfulness of the heart. That you may come to find more perfection, more abundant kindness and deeper fellowship with The Son. Remember Who is speaking and who He is speaking to: <Ye have neither heard His voice at anytime, nor seen His shape. And ye have not His word abiding in you: for Whom He hath sent, Him ye believe not. Search the scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life: and they are they which testify of Me. If another come in his own name, him you will receive. How can you believe, which receive honor from one another, and seek not the honor that comes only from Elohim. Do not think that I will accuse you to The Father. There is one who accuses you, even Moses, in whom you trust. For had you believed Moses, you would have believed Me: for he wrote of Me. But if you believe not his writings how shall you believe My words?>
You see, The witnesses of The Savior were everywhere spanning over great multitudes of time and space. Even great multitudes of people followed Him. He preached least in the temple and from the pulpit. He preached from the wilderness too. It did not take much to describe His character to those who were being oppressed and looking for Their Savior. It was those who were laying burdens on the backs of those who did not have the heart to lay burdens on the the weak. The strong were being divested of their opportunity to see The Truth. Divested of their opportunity to see The Truth because of their riches and comforts. Those who were laying burdens on others were the ones that were most difficult for The Savior: Not to show them the truth, but to help them to walk in it. They always saw it, at the very least, a glimpse.
