Abigail, Ahinoam and Abigail, Ahinoam the jezreelitess, Nabal's widow, queen of Israel, Woman of The Bible, yeshua

Hi everyone. I hope you are all having a really great day and that The Messiah is pouring His goodness into you and around you. I have been working on several different Bible Meditations for about one to two years now. The Meditation on Leviticus is nearly in it’s final draft, and it’s current form can be downloaded and printed for free at http://www.gleaningtheScriptures.com. It is planned to be on sale on Amazon for $45 or so. As an appreciation to my intimate, core group of supporters, it is free for you as of the writing of this post. If you have any trouble downloading it, get in touch with me.

The publication I am currently working on is an exploration of David’s life from a much different perspective than most of us are use to: exploring how similar David is to The Savior. Don’t get me wrong, pointing out that God uses even dreadfully sinful sinners to do His work is a theme throughout the Bible, and has it’s place and produces fruit. It is so wonderful how God works. In our meditation we start with the Ruth scroll. Before God even introduces us to David, He starts by giving us the story of how one of David’s great grandads (Boaz) came to know one of his great grandmothers (Ruth). This buffer of introduction can be seen in David. David’s life is used to bring us to be introduced to The Savior. These layers of introductory characters are much like how a great man from a great house has several layers of servants to bring a newcomer to be brought before the master of the house. The master of the house will not answer the door, but a servant within the house would most likely welcome the newcomer, bringing the new comer to an opulent, ornate room to wait for the master. In some instances the secretary or assistant directly under the master might bring the new comer to the master’s study, office, or table to discuss the matters at hand. It is concepts like this one that the Meditation aims to help you focus on through giving you meaningful questions to ask yourself while reading His scrolls.

The suggestion is that Ruth’s story plays a servile part for David, if you will. More importantly however, David’s life plays that part for God. Thus, they all work together in serving the introduction of God to His people. With that foundation laid, I bring you an excerpt from the David Meditation. The setting is as follows: the capture of Ahinoam and Abigail, when they are taken by the Amalakites, while David was living with the Philistines as a result of Saul needing some room because he was intent on killing David. This excerpt is a commentary marking a transition in the meditation. Enjoy!

“That marks the end of Part Two of the Meditation. It might seem abrupt or out of place, huh? This is a dramatic place in the gospel that leaves the reader wanting to know more; but, that is not why we pause here: This being a meditation, note that there is a lot to meditate on at this part.

The parallels between The Messiah’s work on the cross, and Ahinoam and Abigail being taken captive are garish.” (ch. 29 of 1 Samuel) “We know that a man and a woman becoming married makes them one flesh (Mark 10:8; 1 Corinthians 7:4). There is a reason The Creator designed the covenant of marriage that way. Abigail, it seems from the story, understood this covenantal concept. Much of the Scripture that supports that structure had not been penned yet and it is doubtful that Abigail had access to the Scriptures that had been penned during this historical event. She came to David in the integrity of Messiah, telling him that she would take the blame for her husband’s treachery, and asked for forgiveness. Those were not empty words, she repented in both word and action: taking David the goods he needed even though her husband would likely rail her for doing so. She also asked for mercy from David on her husband, and honestly spoke that God would take care of the situation in His mercy and justice.

She being servile to her husband and a servant to God knew it was partially her responsibility (which is slightly different than it being her fault) that her husband was a “scoundrel”, as she put it. Her patience and integrity did not pay out for her unfortunately: her husband was not wise enough to see his new man. Instead, God justly killed him 10 days post circumstance, saving David from having to do so, and Abigail the trouble of serving an obtuse spouse.

With Abigail becoming David’s wife in the wake of Nabal’s untimely death, without divorce, but through death (Romans 7:2), David and Abigail were made one flesh, and the flesh of Nabal was no longer spiritually bound to Abigail. Abigail had a lot of baggage, though. Sure there was baggage from her past marriage, but the story subtly, sonorously focuses on baggage from her own personal nature and propensity to be in rebellion to God’s ways. She had this baggage nestled in the deep dark caverns of her heart. These caverns were difficult to get to as they required traversing many treacherous tunnels and passes. This is not something only Abigail faced, but is the human condition that God sent a Savior for, such that man “might” be saved, as He eloquently, eloquently and honestly puts it (John 3:16). This, Abigail needing to foster her subsistence (or H: nefesh; meaning “being”), can be assumed in that twice or more since Nabal’s death God referred to Abigail as “Nabal’s widow”. Her very words before King David attested to the dark cloud that followed Nabal’s name. The Father having used this title to describe her when there were several other options is a clue to the attentive reader that she had some work to do. He chastens those that He loves and He had worked all things for the good of Abigail.

So God was calling Abigail “Nabal’s widow” and indeed she must have been. As a result, with God being a good Father, He allowed the enemy nation to sweep her up and take her away. Where was David during all this? Preparing for battle. With the Philistines. Although David was a strong man of God, it is within the realm of possibilities that he was not strong enough to let the Amalekites take his new wife without a fight. Following that line of thinking, God did him a solid and distracted him with the battle preparation ceremony he and all of his city’s men were partaking in. This put David in a place where he was more or less “asleep” to the circumstance happening at home, leaving God able to complete His work with His daughters Abigail and Ahinoam.

This, Nabal’s widow, being swept away by the enemy nation, surrounded the woman with, and threatened to make her part of the enemy nation. Most likely putting her in a very similar, albeit much worse circumstance than what God had just saved her from in serving her wicked husband. Out of the pan and into the fire as they say. That would have hit home to any woman of faith, recognizing in prayer and much soul searching that, if explored objectively, her own behaviors could be found in the enemy who had captured her. God was giving her a refinement opportunity. That picture of the enemy’s stronghold within is very powerful for those who have ears to hear and eyes to see. The Savior was working on tearing down the stronghold and it would indeed fail if she would listen, pray, and obey. And continue in faith, which is obedience.

Humility was the key for Abigail. Without it, she would have never seen her faults and been able to allow Father to fix her. There are two main veins of thought I have been shown in prayer and spiritual guidance from on High. I lean towards the vein that says she was humble. Her previous actions showed humility, courage, willingness to long-suffer, honor and integrity. But did she continue in faith, which is obedience? She was being chastened to let “Nabal’s widow” die, so she could become “David’s wife”, a queen of the house of Israel: a high high calling, with responsibilities well beyond what any man could handle. Did she accept even this chastening? On the other hand it might be that none of this entered Abigail’s mind during or after the capture, and instead she came to respect David as her knight in shining armor without accepting The Savior’s chastening as it was presented to her. David’s action with the wife of Uriah supports this other vein of thought. It takes loneliness to drive a good man into an adulterous relationship. David always accepted God’s chastening, which could have left him lonely in his marriage if his wife (wives) was not in the same place as Him spiritually. With that addressed, I do stand (albeit waveringly) believing Abigail continued in humility. If Abigail had accepted continued chastening, the depth of fellowship between man and wife that would have resulted, although awesome, does have it’s weaknesses. The world’s god is satan don’cha (don’t ya) know (2 Corinthians 4:4)?

The parallels to The Messiah in Abigail’s story are unquestionable. Yeshua on the cross is swept away by the enemy as He “takes on the sins of the world”, “despising the shame” (1 John 2:2; Hebrews 12:2). Shame being something He most likely had not experienced before, being guiltless. His friends were “asleep” when He needed them most (Matthew 26:40). Furthermore, apropos The Messiah was not yet seated on The Throne, at the right hand of The Almighty. To be King of all, He had yet still to go to the place of the dead and maintain His integrity even there, where He “preached the gospel to the lost souls” after descending to the “lower parts of the earth” (1 Peter 3:19; Ephesians 4:9).

Once the entire mission was accomplished, The Scriptures chronicle that The Messiah rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:3-4); was made known on earth, preaching the gospel 40 days still more (Acts 1:3); then, rose to His rightful place, having lived by faith, on His throne (Hebrews 12:2): much like Abigail experienced in her hellish capture, going from serving Nabal’s house (a man of the world, descended from Caleb) to being threatened to have to serve the Amalekites (a nation of the world’s depths) to becoming Queen of Israel (seated on a proverbial throne of majesty next to her King and husband David): the microcosm of the story of Messiah she may have experienced in it’s fullness. God declared and declares in your hearing that He is God, even when made subject to the weakness of the flesh. This meditation’s questions are meant to help you use your body’s energy to focus on and anchor to thought processes like this. If you have found solace and strength in this place that the mind of Messiah has to offer, praise Him for your renewing.”

I hope you enjoyed and will continue to enjoy that excerpt from The Bible Meditation focusing on David’s life. If you have, encouragements and constructive criticisms, please. The comment section on my blog is severely underused and I am happy to respond to all your wonderful comments! I am also not offended when you take my comment section as an opportunity to have your own conversation threads between yourselves. Many of you have been reading my blog for more than five years now. You must have something in common! If I find that this excerpt is well received, I may consider posting more like this. The Savior bless you all, and protect you in today’s world. You are to be the head and not the tail. Make disciples of men through the power of Messiah.

We are well beyond 1,000 subscribers now and nearly to the big 1.5k! For a gospel centered blog, that preaches unpopular truths even within gospel circles, this is an accomplishment. A big thank you to all my subscribers, especially those in Africa and China (and Asia, you strong ones) and The Middle East. Your hunger for righteousness is an inspiration to me.

Another Facet of Faith

22 Saturday Jan 2022

I have to apologize. After reading and reworking this a few times, I have found it still falls utterly short of it’s intended goal. Maybe though, the message from Him will not be lost in translation.

The Bible has a lot to say about faith. Apropos, we live in a time where it takes faith, at first, to even believe the Bible is to be taken seriously. I promise, as time marches on, The Bible becomes one of the only things taken seriously; but, you are reading a GTS post: you are most likely way beyond that at this point. These articles are directed to strengthen, nourish, encourage and love already strong believers. Feeding the flock if you will.

Many verses are written about faith and when put into context, and studied with a believing heart the verses will shape you into a person you will love even more and is more suitable to be in the presence of God The Father, proving Yeshua’s work to have been good.

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1

Years ago, I found it much easier to be in a relationship with somebody I could believe is real. It is very difficult if not impossible to love a fairy tale character with the kind of love expected for God. It took a long time for the confession of the mouth to sink into the fleshly mind. You know, it never will sink into the fleshly mind. How do you feel about this? The comment section is severely underused on my blog, and maybe that is a good thing, who knows.

In John Ch. 1, John writes that the Word is God. We won’t ever be able to prove God wrong. A way that my faith has increased so much further than I would have thought possible is through reading Scripture with a mind that knows all of it is the truth. I hope it has and will strengthen you too. The Scriptures are like threads, and our minds are like the eye of a needle. A single thread in the Spiritual does not do much good. Multi-threaded strands, threaded into the same eye are what build faith. Understanding this is the starting point because you can change the way you think about the world around you and how you react to it based on bending your brain, breaking the flesh to support the idea that things in the Bible support each other. You will allow Him to redefine the terms of your existence.

This, because the flesh subtly fights with itself and over-time destroys itself. The holiness of The Scriptures are at peace with one another. This is contrary to the mind of the flesh, which acts similarly, but instead of it being the eye of a needle that is being threaded, it is more like a cavernous honey comb. The armor we are given has a belt which is known for holding things together: the belt is truth. If you are deceived in anyway, you are vulnerable to the enemy’s schemes.

“For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded, life and peace.” Romans 8:6

So, when your carnal mind is telling you that Scriptures are being contradictory, should you continue to trust that notion? What will choosing to continue down the path of believing Scripture is contradicting itself lead to? What crop will it produce? The same, no, most likely worse than it always has is the answer to that question. What if you take a step in faith, and believe that everything God wrote is Him and that He does not contradict Himself? You will find a deeper relationship with God. You will also find greater responsibility and harsher consequences because He loves you. If you are not ready to handle a relationship with God in love, you will continue to be deceived, serving a false Messiah who was commissioned by The Father to be a false Messiah for the good of all those who believe. Satan is very very good at being a deceiver.

God The Father is Spirit, and the contract is quite clear: your flesh is not meant to be changed, but to die, and His Spirit in you is meant to live, not to be changed. It has been created such that there is not room for both, and the key to accessing your true self is faith, which is action. Without action faith is not.

Trying to prove Scripture wrong, or allowing deceit to rest in your life when it has been revealed is an act supported by evil.

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness” Romans 1:18

Prior to the revelation of evil in one’s life, the person was a victim nearly innocent. After a believed lie is revealed, when a person chooses to shun the holy and continue to embrace the lie, continuing to walk in what they believe is mercy, the person is still a victim but, at that point they are a victim of their own doing and they are guilty, at this point even responsible for their own guilt. They have not accepted the sacrifice made for them. Before they were guilty in God’s eyes, but it was not guilt they could be held fully responsible for yet. This is called “suppressing the truth in unrighteousness” and often times the decision to suppress the truth happens in less than a second.

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and Spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

If a person can break through that gut reaction to the truth it almost always results in a several seconds of revelation. You know, the eyes glaze over, look up and away, while the person enjoys a mix of emotions and the holy gears of the Spiritual mind symphonically and synchronically turn. Often feelings of humility in realizing they had been a little off in their view of reality, possibly a bit of shame before the one who corrected them, but mostly the enriching and purely good feelings that come with several pieces of the mysteries of God falling together as the mind is washed of a lie and the truth that is indeed worth fighting for is revealed are the results. All that, and only in the first few seconds of revelation, if a person is ready.

“And like the light of the morning when the sun rises, a morning without clouds…” 2 Samuel 23:4

That is earned, and generally bought with sacrifice, with humility.

“.., Because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.” Romans 1:19-21

It is being deep within a cave or vein of the earth, moving away the earth’s rubble and finding a gem that is both beautiful and strong. It is worth all the effort. The key to all of that is faith. Faith is the thing that breaks through the shear moment that victims often cannot get through, that brings them to suppress the truth in unrighteousness. I say again, according to Scripture, that kind of victim is not innocent and is worthy of death. Death does not happen right away, but slowly, over-time, death (what people call life when they say “life-happens” in response to hearing a tragedy) continues to walk, talk, work, and play. It is the outward result of an inwardly darkened heart. They are at fault for their heart was darkened more: they chose to suppress the truth in unrighteousness. It is our responsibility to allow a person to choose to do so if they wish, but it is our responsibility to never stop fishing. We, as a family, are responsible also for the continuing in seeking wholeness, “perfection” as the English translations put it: Teleios (the Greek tongue) as it was penned by His saint. Remember, Yeshua used nets, not hooks, unless He was paying taxes.

With God being The Word, if a person successfully proves Him wrong, then he builds himself to greater than His status. He allows people to believe they are greater than Him. Heck, He even allows people to believe He is a figment of the collective conscience’s imagination. This does not change the fact that somebody who believes that line of thinking, regardless of how sweet they are or the good they seem to do, is an evil person. They have refused to sacrifice their flesh to make room for the Spirit.

“Now the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘If a person sins unintentionally against any of the commandments of YHVH in anything which ought not to be done, and does any of them, if the anointed priest sins, bringing guilt on the people, then let him offer to the Lord for his sin which he has sinned a young bull without blemish as a sin offering.” Leviticus 4:1-3

The above verses from Leviticus are being used contextually. The purpose of the sacrifices (both animal and Divine) were used to make several points. Here is one of those points: I repeat, the righteous man must make a sacrifice every time a sin is pointed out if we are to move forward in righteousness. If we do not sacrifice, the path will be blocked and we are hopeless to find it. The above sacrifice is not made until the unintentional sin is made known to the sinner.

Wickedness is unwilling to sacrifice for the truth. The ungodly, seeming to do good, but always reaping a harvest that is not pleasing to God, they trust in their own works, and will not be obedient to faith. Proving the Scriptures wrong is an act that comes from a prideful place. God wants us to be humble in everything that we do: healing, learning, filling others with grace, and helping one another to sharpen our faith to a fine point that can pierce through even the darkest of darkened hearts. If we cast a mountain into the sea with faith we must be humble about it.

“Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.” Romans 1:22-25

Reading something in The Bible, with a heart of pride, that sounds like it is contradicting itself: such as the two different accounts of money that was found at the same threshing floor, the carnal mind gleefully and immediately jumps to the conclusion that The Bible is defunct, with or without it’s owner’s knowledge that that is what it is doing. If It is defunct, there might not be a Yeshua to need to serve. That would put us in a position where we are greater than Him: we exist, He does not. If we are greater than Him than the difficulties in walking the hard road are not necessary, we can do it ourselves, our works will suffice, the future is too far away and not worth investing in: all lines of thinking that shield the evil mind from the revelation of glory. No need to humble ourselves. When our minds see a contradiction in the Bible, know that it is an opportunity for you to communicate with your Creator, instead of an opportunity to dig the spear in deeper forcing Him to subtly slip the sheet over your eyes with His left hand.

“Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” Romans 8:7

&

“If you love Me, keep My commandments.” John 14:15

The goal is to find out how Scripture (or God’s character) is not contradictory, through reading and studying the Scriptures. Would the good employee not find his coworkers’ and his boss’ words to be defensible? Would the good son do this for his dad and continue in doing so if it is found that dad is both right and loving? How much more, beyond this even, is required then in serving The Almighty? Keep The Messiah and those seemingly contradictory Scriptures on the forefront of your mind, all day, until God answers. He will thread the needle. Saul became Paul didn’t he?

That more or less marks the end of part one of this article. If you have learned things and are encouraged, I know it is difficult sometimes to stop something you are enjoying, but consider making a cup of tea, or even giving yourself a few days to meditate on what was learned. Especially consider doing so in prayer so that any misunderstandings or misinformations that could have found their way into your mind are meted out and replaced with purity. There is a second page you are welcome to enjoy when you are ready. Also, this is not a walk done alone, share this article with your friends and family and enjoy being built together instead of alone. It is not good for man to be alone.

The Two Foundations of The World

14 Friday Jan 2022

Today’s article is a guide in Bible meditation. Some of the parallels drawn will help and fill you up at face value. If you open up your Bible, and study it on your own with these things in mind it will help even more. That is what all of my posts are designed to do. This one is right out in the open about it. I hope it finds you well and you have a really great day.

As a precursor, let’s look at 1 Peter 3:20 <When once the long-suffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing. Wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.>

We all have heard the story of Noah in the flood (Genesis ch.’s 6-9). It was devastating. It destroyed the entire world. Water is how it was destroyed, yet 8 people were saved by water. Noah was righteous and God was saving Him. From what was Noah being saved?

Let’s pray on that for a while and glean. With that knowledge there are a lot of questions to ask. The event was real, but at the same time it is used as a metaphorical story, or a lesson. Here are some questions to eek out some of the goodness: what does the flood represent? What does the ark represent? Why did God choose to destroy the earth’s living things with something they all needed to live: water?

Parallels:

Ch2.V7.<And The Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul.>

Ch8.v1.<And God remembered Noah, and every living thing and all the cattle that was with him in the ark and God made a wind pass over the earth and the waters assuaged.>

Ch1.v28. <And God blessed them, and God said unto them, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”>

Ch9.v1. <And God blessed Noah, and His sons and said unto them, “Be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth.”>

There are three wonderful things here, if not more that are all parallel: a) God commands us to be fruitful b) God commands us to multiply c) God blesses us.

Ch2.v.17 <”But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, though shalt not eat of it…”>

Ch9.v.4 <”But the flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof shall ye not eat.”>

Here we are commanded not to eat particular things.

Ch3.v6 & 7 <… she took of the fruit thereof , and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of both of them were opened and they knew that they were naked.>

Ch9.v21 <And he drank of the wine and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. And Ham the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his dad.>

There are two things here also, if not much more: a) being ashamed of nakedness b) A curse is the result of the ingestion of a)fruit or b)something derived from a fruit. Well then, what does fruit represent and how does partaking of too much of it’s wine (essence) reflect problems within the human condition, a good thing that humans are prone to abuse?

Ch3.v.’s 14-17 <And The Lord God said unto the serpent, “Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. And unto Adam he said, “Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, “Thou shalt not eat of it”: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”>

Ch9.v25 <And he said “Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.”>

I dont want to expound on that. So we wont go there. When Noah stepped out of the ark he built an altar and a burnt an offering to The Lord. When He <smelled a sweet savor; and The Lord said in His heart, I will not again curse the ground anymore for man’s sake . . . neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.> It sounds like the Lord lifted some of the curse the serpent caused in tricking Eve and strong arming Adam into eating the fruit. The conversation they all have with one another is kind of comical. It is each of them passing the buck until the serpent receives blame. The Lord then curses the serpent and so forth. We should see this and be ashamed, let’s take responsibility for our actions. In doing so we are punished, indeed. In being loved of God it helps us to break free from sin. The Savior’s very reason for laying hold of those of whom He is betrothed, and His love is greater than any man’s problems.

These are only a few parallels within this story and they are to be found throughout the rest of the Bible. Go ahead and see what else can be found within these two accounts of earth’s History, man’s relationship with our Father, and the story of the foundations of earth, both of them, as we know it. We are stuck here aren’t we? Might as well get to know it from the the perspective of Him who Created it. It is a more accurate perspective than those who get paid in honor and mammon to use what they see today to explain what happened thousands of years ago.

Lord Yeshua, We pray that Your Name be lifted up and that we have the faith to stream towards You. We have faith in the crucifixion and we love You for Your sacrifice. Be real to us so that we have motivation to steer clear of sin long before we come face to face with it, like Adam and Eve should have done. We put on the shackles and chains of The Spirit so we can be freed from the bondage of sin with it’s shame and guilt. Brings us and keep us in Your fold Yeshua Ha-Masheach, humbly we serve You in our brothers and sisters and wait patiently for you to come again.
