Before reading this I want you to know that the argument I pose comes from a place of love. What do I benefit if you agree with me or disagree? We probably don’t even live in the same place. I pose this argument for this reason: The logic here has made my life better and it is my purpose to make your life better, forgetting about this silly article and learning who God truly is.
The good book describes a sin as a trespass. Imagine that your dad has built a compound with big walls and a beautiful palace inside. Being inside the compound there is nearly no threats. Outside of the compound are numerous threats, both physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. The only way to get harmed is to trespass outside the walls.
People like to throw out many of the laws in the old testament, focusing on only the New Testament. This is an approach that could hurt you if you never accept the truth that is in the Old Testament. The New Testament relies on the Old and says so all the time.
When we start a job, or a game, or a sport, we first learn the rules. As we get better at it we learn when it is appropriate to break the rules. As we master it we learn how to use those rules, and sometimes break them in order to achieve the goals of our superiors. It is the same in a relationship with God. The Bible even says it:
“Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.”(KJV)
“Let me put it another way. The law was our guardian until Christ came; it protected us until we could be made right with God through faith. And now that the way of faith has come, we no longer need the law as our guardian.” (NLV)
See, in the New Testament it is spelled right out that the law is completely necessary. If you never have followed the law or desired to follow the law than you may want to consider it. The world will tell you that you are already a child of Christ to keep you from the very thing. If you do not delight in His law, let me say: for you, the way of faith has not yet come. Let me explain. I love you.
“Loving God means keeping His commandments, and His commandments are not burdensome.” According to this scripture if you do not keep His commandments you are not loving God at the moment. If you are keeping His commandments and they are a burden to you than you are not loving God.
“Those who accept My commandments and obey them are the ones who love Me. And because they love Me, My Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal Myself to each of them.” According to this scripture If you are not accepting the Old Testament commands, you are not one of those who love Him, and tragically since He is not revealing Himself to you than you know less about Him than somebody who does accept His commandments.
You see now, that in order to be a child in God’s house you follow His rules. This is not something that comes from trying to follow His rules. Following His rules and enjoying it comes from giving your life, to a church? No. A group of people who say they love God? No. Those are important parts of loving your fellow man but first and foremost you must give your life to Christ Himself.
It is spelled out in the New Testament: those who love God follow His commands, love to follow His commands, and by doing this they get to know Jesus.
Only after we get to know Jesus we no longer need the law. Why? because Christ is in us and we are in Him and we naturally know and do Our Father’s deeds.
If you are celebrating right now because you are reading the words of a person who also is with you in Christ, YESSS!!!! I love you too. If you are confused, angry, or melancholy about this, than you would do well to start considering what it means to give your life to Christ, please. Even if you have already answered an alter call, or are a preacher of a church, or are the pope, or have been baptized already. Do not let yourself be a victim. Satan uses the good intentions of people to keep the majority of church goers unsaved.
Here, The Bible says the same thing, but a little quieter: It was about the year 3000 BC and after the Israelites had traveled for three days without any water, God brought them right up to the point of death. After three days with no water the Israelites were starting to worry if they were going to make it. They found themselves thirsty, at Marah, where there was water, but it was undrinkable.
See this: God brings His people right up to the point of death. He then places right in front of them what they need to live. But before they can take it in to continue living He made sure Moses told them a very important thing: “If you diligently heed the voice of The Lord Your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the egyptians. For I am The Lord Who Heals You.” He neglected to spell out for them exactly how to follow all those rules, but He hinted at it.
He then made the waters drinkable. You see, God is telling His people that the diseases that lead to plague, illness, paralysis, cancer, heart attacks, selfishness and ultimately death are there to help us recognize when we, or our friends and family, are trespassing or could be trespassing. When we are crossing from being inside of Father’s property to outside of Father’s property. God is telling us “when you are inside My property I can protect you, but when you trespass to the outside I will let the evil one do as he wills with you. Please, stay within the boundaries I have set, this is more important than life on earth.”
Satan’s job is to keep us from knowing God. The world’s popular belief within the ranks of christians is that the laws and commands and rules in the old testament just aren’t worth following.
- “I mean come on, they are impossible to follow so why try?”
- “They aren’t worth trying to follow.”
- “They are too hard”
- “If I tried to follow His laws, I’d spend all day thinking about that instead of my life”
- “I am not Jewish”
These are a few arguments Satan places within us to keep us from relationship with Him.
In the case of some one who is all in for being christian, the effort to follow a command or two at a time until they become “your style” is extraordinarily worth all and every effort. Plus, when you are all in for God He causes you to want to try. It has become your joy, believer. Why? because in trying, you get to know God. That’s what He wants. For you to understand Him.
Satan’s entire army is set up to keep you from understanding God. Satan has control over all flesh. Flesh is more than just sexual passion. It is also your brain, your liver, your thoughts and opinions, your mind, your heart, your emotions, your goals, and your daily habits. Everything that makes you, you. God gave Satan all of that somewhere between your conception and your first breath, and the only way out is through giving your life to Christ.
“You are fearfully and wonderfully made” is what The Word says. Did you ever wonder why God felt fear when He made you? Yup, that’s why. What if he or she never accepts Me in all the confusion and misrepresentation. If I was God that’s what I would be thinking when making people. We know God already knows what is going to happen, but don’t let that divert you from the truth: “You are fearfully and wonderfully made.”
Because following these laws are hard, people even go so far as to ascribe to this silly thought: because of Jesus’ death on the cross we do not have to follow them (the laws). The new covenant right? I am sorry to tell you this because it makes becoming a christian , well, really tough: that is a lie too. The truth is,(1) Jesus died on the cross so that when a believer endures sin he/she can come back to God without shame getting in the way. Also, (2) when somebody becomes one with The Body, shame does not get in the way. His work causes us to see those laws as being worth following. It is Satan’s work that is telling you to throw the law in the garbage if you are not yet a person who enjoys the law.
The cross does not negate the commands of The Father. Imagine if we started loving those commands and really wanting to follow them. Your prize for following them is Jesus being revealed to you (“Those who accept My commandments and obey them are the ones who love Me. And because they love Me, My Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal Myself to each of them.” ). Imagine you have worked hard to follow His rules and even enjoyed it. Now, then when Jesus is revealed to you because of your shame from past sin you run and hide. You run and hide from the prize that should have been yours? No way. That is what He died to save us from. If you are saved then you do not run and hide, but you are invited in with open arms, and you invite Him in with open arms.
Yes, following Jesus is hard work. It was work for Isaiah, Jeremiah, Jesus, Paul, Timothy, John, Jonah, Moses, Abraham etc.. Following Jesus is the hardest work anybody can do and often very very lonely and filled with every person at every turn telling you that it is not the way because they like their cushy social circle of people who accept their version of Jesus.
Their watered down version of Jesus is so watered down that they are living in sin and have a little bit of Jesus. They could be living with a little bit of or no sin at all while living in Jesus.
Maybe you would like to give it a try, but are scared what people will say or think. Maybe you are thinking all those laws are for the Jews, and I am not Jewish, so these rules do not apply to me. This also is a misrepresentation. Here are three truths that will straighten out that little twist.
1. Not all Jews are believers. Remember the 144,000 that are sealed in The Revelation of Our Savior? 144,000 is 12,000 from each tribe. This tells us that not every Jewish person is saved, unless of course there are only 12,000 Jews at that time.
Some Jews are trespassers, living outside of God’s property, but are still carrying on the traditions of their fathers. Tragically, as unsaved property of Satan, he causes them to believe that because their family is in The Bible that they are elite and therefore the only people who should be allowed to carry on the traditions and commands and laws: like celebrating feast days, cutting your hair the way The Bible asks you to, celebrating God’s Sabbath on the seventh day, and wearing tzitzit. Also, recognize that some of these commands are not being followed correctly by Jews. If you intend to begin following these commands do so by reading the Bible and asking God directly how He wants you to do it. Do not look to our brothers and sisters, the Jews for every answer, because sometimes they are wrong. Note: if you can imagine how difficult it is to be a saved Jew amongst unsaved Jews please, please, please pray for them. That is also a command from God: Pray for Israel. and the Jews are part of Israel.
2. Believers are adopted into the Israelite family if they aren’t already an Israelite and are not aware of it. God’s desire is to save everyone. When a man or woman comes to Him who is not of the Israelites He begins “grafting them to the vine”. The vine is Israel’s descendants.
3. God commanded the Isrealites only to follow these commands. It says so right in The Bible: “God commanded “the Israelites””. This argument would be completely valid except for this: Satan has caused us to think that The Jews are the only Israelites. The Jews are only 1 Israelite tribe! That’s right. The other 11 tribes are scattered abroad and nobody can count them. Abraham bore Jacob. Jacob’s name became Israel. Israel bore 12 lads and a few girls: the Israelites. God promised Abraham that like the stars no one would be able to count his descendants: the Israelites. For me, personally, because I am not sure what tribe I am from or if I am from a tribe at all, I follow these commands. When you feel the desire to follow the commands it means you are on the right track. Fight against the world’s desire to derail you. Trust me, you will be blessed richly for it.
If you or I adopted a foreign child into our household that child would be extended a certain, special grace just for them. They would be expected to eventually be responsible for following the rules within the home, but they would have their own pathway to get there. If you or your son sacrificed to help them see how much you loved them and how badly you needed them to stay out of the street and then somebody convinced the adopted child that your sacrifice was actually to help them continue to live outside of the rules, wouldn’t that be just wrong? It would be a lie designed to keep the child from successfully becoming a functioning member of the household. They would end up a slave to the streets if they didn’t at some point start following the rules. Through following the rules, the child would be able to be in relationships with other like minded, good people.
Following God’s commands are integral to being in relationship with Him. They are worth defending and they truly cause one to see who Christ is. The only way to The Father is through The Son. Give your life to Him today, right now cutting the binds of sin and shame from you. He will bear that cross. Wait, He already did. Step into His temple. Satan destroyed it, but He rebuilt it in three days.
