<Now the snake was more subtle than any beast of the field> is exactly what Jesus says to warn us of Satan and the wiles of sin. Saul experienced this subtilty first hand. Samuel’s mother made giant sacrifices to ensure that she followed through with her word to God: “Lord if you give me a son, I will give you a son.” Now those aren’t her exact words, none the less, the maelstrom here is the knowledge that Samuel’s mom gave Samuel to God.
When Saul was king, and David slew Goliath, Saul’s jealousy took root in Saul’s heart and was never destroyed completely. Every time it was hampered it only came back stronger until it destroyed him. At some point, Saul had all of Israel chasing David around the countryside to kill David, and Saul wondered why Adonai stopped speaking to him for a while. Now, remember, Samuel is a good prophet of God, obedient, even when it hurt to be obedient. God was not talking to Saul in any way shape or form. Saul was lost. Very lost.
<And Saul sware to her by The Lord, saying, “As The Lord liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing.”
Then said the woman, “Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel.” And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, “Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul.”
And the king said unto her, “Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth.”
And he said unto her, “What form is he of?”
And she said, “An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle.”
And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself.
And Samuel said to Saul, “Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.”
Then said Samuel, “Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the Lord is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy? And the Lord hath done to him, as he spake by me: for the Lord hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David: Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the Lord, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the Lord done this thing unto thee this day. Moreover the Lord will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the Lord also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.”
Then Saul fell straightway all along on the earth, and was sore afraid, because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; for he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night.>
You see, Saul did die soon after that. He died a king over Israel ,and in sin and disobedience and suffered the draconian punishment that he had been storing up for himself.
Samuel, at the point of the conversation had already died and been gathered into his Fathers. People do not control the spirits of the living.
I do not want to scare you, however to tell you that there are still people out there in the world like the soothsayer that Saul spoke with so many years ago would be an understatement. We live in a world where people who practice magik are very numerous and everybody is aware of magik. Magik is more powerful than people. Satan is the ruler of magik and he makes it hard to resist.
The Father of all mercies promises us that as His children, no curse can fall upon us. He loves everyone equally. Very few do the hard work of loving Him. Those who are not obedient to His commandments and say that they know Him are liars and the truth is not in them.

Good points. Recall that when YAHUAH told Moshe to gather the people with Aaron, and meet Him at Mt. Sinai, the people told Moshe, “no way He’s too scary, you go and then come back and tell us what He wants”. Thus in what would’ve been the first time since Eden, that He would have an encounter with the people He’d created, they declined and appointed an intermediary “to go get the word of God for them”. This continued with Joshua, then the judges, then prophets up to Samuel, Then the people demanded that Samuel tell YHVH that they wanted a king, mostly so they could be like all the other nations, instead of being set apart as His people. YHVH told Samuel “what are you upset about? it’s not you they’re rejecting it’s Me. Tell them I will give them a king, and when I do he will do “…(He names 6 things the kings will do to the people), and then He tells Samuel to tell them “when they come crying to Me tell them I will not listen”. So the first lesson from that is “be careful what you ask for”,. Next, of course, He had a plan to restore relationship (communion) with mankind, which would entail the sacrifice of His Son. Paul wrote to the Corinthians, “these things were written for our example so we ill learn from the errors His people in the past made and avoid them. Unfortunately, we’re still perpetuating them. We still have 1 man appointed to “bring the word of the Lord” to the assembly / congregation each week, thus most aren’t living in the responsibility of walking in intimacy with Him, hearing from Him directly via the Holy Spirit, and most also aren’t Berean-like in their approach to what they’re told. The Holy Spirit, according to Yeshua ha Mashiach, was sent to lead each of us into all truth so that we have no need that any man should teach us. While there are ministry gifts for the perfection of the body, Paul commended the Bereans for not accepting what he taught, (tho he was 4 ministry gifts in 1 person – apostle, prophet, evangelist, and teacher), but they checked everything against the written word under the tutelage of the Holy Spirit – for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life”.
