In 1 Corinthians chapter 3 Paul is undergoing the daunting task of making believers out of the Corinthians. He must be hearing them talk of how they are of this man or that man and with this talk he understands that God has yet to reveal to them the ways in which The Spirit moves amongst His people.
<Are you not of the flesh behaving in an ordinary human way? Whenever someone says “I belong to Paul” or “I belong to Apollos” are you not merely human>
As we seek to be with Christ He begins to lay foundations within us. It is up to us to allow these foundations to change who we are: how we act, react, pro-act, relate to others, relate to Christ, what we say, and what we do and think. That is challenging. Faith will guide us through these times and strengthen us as He moves us.
We must be aware that there are powerful angels for us and against us. Satan does not want us to be in relationship with God. Therefore, he will try to slip in wherever he can. We must trust in Christ to guide us and destroy any carnal foundation within us so that His foundation can be made to guide us:
<If the work stands that some one built upon the foundation, that person will receive wage. But if someone’s work is burned up that one will suffer loss; the person will be saved, but only as through fire.>
You see when a person allows an unstable foundation to be laid within them, God allows for its instability to show, that person suffers loss. Through that loss they are saved from the bad foundation and can seek one made by Christ! Even Christ went through this trial and error process. He can relate to this directly and therefore can help His people through it.
<For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.> Isaiah 7 v 16
He is the wise masterbuilder and we are His foreman, his hands, doing his work with humble hearts and joyful eyes. Lord let us realize that it is you working through us that does every good thing. Sometimes the face of evil is so subtle and looks like charity or peace or even grace. Put Your wisdom in us, Jesus, to see what truly pleases You so that we may do Your work with integrity.
Please read 1 Corinithians chapter 3 and pray that God will bring the word into your heart. The Isaiah reference would be better understood through reading the verses around it. know that Immanuel is the name given to baby Jesus by the angel through His mother Mary.
