Many Blessings everyone!  Today marks another end to a first day of the week.   This is the day the Lord created the heavens and the earth!  He created everything first in His mind much the way a carpenter would visualize a bench before putting it down on paper, before making it, and then created something He saw to be good: light!.  Let us sing unending praises worthy of His ears because we have light.  It is separate from darkness and this is the first duality we learn of in nature.  This duality helps us to understand the spiritual nature of things.  The spiritual nature shows itself everyday in the solid life that we people live within.

Jesus your sacrifice is amazing.  You worked so hard spiritually so that we can be saved, so that we can have an example that shows us we know how to act and what to do, so we can learn how to grow spiritually.  Protect us and guide us as we grow spiritually and allow us to fumble ourselves further and further into the kingdom of heaven on earth, all around us.

Today we are going to note a Mother with a tough decision to make.  She had a young babe destined to die.  This woman, Jochabed is A GREAT MOM!  She was like a ninja mommy: sneaky, clever, decisive, possessed good timing and lucky in being blessed.  I was impressed when reading Exodus Ch. 3.

Let’s break this down and then go ahead and read it.  Now a days when some one is put in a rough spot and comes out on top people say well played.  In this case Jochebed deserves a well-played and I am sure if she were still alive she would immediately send the glory and honor to God.  My dear Pop once told me that it is not the situation that makes a man, it is what he makes of the situation.

Jochebed lived in Egypt during a time when all male children born were to be murdered (similar to Jesus’ birth).  Moses’ survival set him apart, as he would be the only male his age in the city.  To set apart is the root definition of most holy words such as holy, righteous, sanctified.

Jochebed had an impregnable need to see her baby live.  She sent him down the Nile after 3 months of hiding him.  Her sister ( or daughter) was sent down river to watch.  The outcome?  Jochebed went from needing to see her son die to her son having the Egyptian royalty pay her to nurse him.  Well-played Levite woman, well played!

Exodus 2:

And a man of the house of Levi went and took as wife a daughter of Levi. So the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that he was a beautiful child, she hid him three months. But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank. And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him.

Then the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river. And her maidens walked along the riverside; and when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it. And when she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So she had compassion on him, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”

Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?”

And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” So the maiden went and called the child’s mother. Then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him. 10 And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. So she called his name Moses,[a] saying, “Because I drew him out of the water.”

What We Can Glean?

Let us see that both Jochebed and her daughter were bold and courageous in the decisions they made and the actions they took.  The result?  A man that spoke face to face with God and lead a struggling people through a struggling journey to a promised land.  If we have been for Jesus for sometime now we can trust that our humble hearts and minds are flourishing with a garden of spiritual growth.  With that garden is a wealth of spiritual ideas and actions that we can choose from.  Sometimes those actions need some determined umph behind them.  So grit your teeth and get back on your horse.  Stay your path and stay it in prayer and confidence knowing that If God is for you anything against you will fall.  One day they will bow their knees to the only truth this world has ever seen: Jesus Christ.  Truth, meaning, whole truth and nothing except for it.  Be meek, be courageous, show self control, and let Jesus love through you, because we have little idea what it really means to truly love.  He lives in us!
